Building Wealth, Revolutionaries and Kanye
Happy Halloween!
This week, I finally got around to watching the first episode of the Netflix 3-part mini-series: Inside Bill's Brain: Decoding Bill Gates. Fascinating to peer into his mind, and also encouraging to see, with the wealth he has built, the way he is deploying his capital for the good of the world.
Speaking of building wealth, I continued listening to episodes of My First Million podcast this week. Couple fun nuggets picked out... Quiet Light Brokerage is a site (there are others) where you can look at people selling their businesses (revenues, business plans, P&Ls, etc. included); if nothing else, it's great inspiration for what to build/not to build and/or what spaces people are building things in.
Also, one episode of My First Million, recommended the book: Rich Dad, Poor Dad. I started it this week and its simple message has already affected my mindset on money: namely, "Don't work for money, make money work for you". I highly recommend checking it out.
I love listening to people's stories of how they became who they are, especially entrepreneurs. I think it’s why I’ve been digging My First Million so much.. My favorite two podcasts in this category are: How I Built This (very lightweight and entertaining) and Master's of Scale by Reid Hoffman (more heavy-duty "business" lessons).
Edward Norton went onto the JRE podcast and it was fun to hear him talk about people in industries who were so revolutionary they changed that industry forever. Listening to it reminded me of one of my favorite podcast episodes ever, that I revisit regularly, also with Edward Norton, on The Tim Ferris Show.
(Pop Culture) Bonus: It’s been 10 Years since Kayne stole Taylor Swift’s limelight at the VMAs. This week; Kanye released a Gospel Album. The genius marketer (IMHO) that he is, released a flurry of videos... putting his entire choir on a plane with James Corden, and singing with him, late night shows and couple long-form interviews (Apple Music with Zane Lowe and Big Boy TV). I liked the Zane interview the best, especially when he said he would run for president (and was dead serious). Also this week, Taylor Swift did a Tiny Desk Concert. I like her more after watching it... and I liked her a lot before.
Let me know if you check something on on here and your thoughts on it!
See y’all next week!
Cheers,
