Quality > Quantity, Curation = Creation & {{third_topic}}
Howdy!
I've been spending a lot of time in the last couple months thinking about "content" - how we consume it, the apps we use, the different lengths and mediums used today, the evolution, and where I think content will go over the next decade. I think about long-form mediums popping up (Joe Rogan Podcast: 3+ hours of two people simply talking) and short-form mediums (TikTok: limit of 60 second videos).
Over time, I wonder if there will be a gap in attention spans, similar to the wage-gap that exists in America today... Those who can sit and meditate for an hour, with deep focus and unparalleled mindfulness. And then another camp of folks who have short attention spans, can multi-task really well, but it's hard to get into a space of doing true "deep work".
Two things that have bubbled to the top and resonated with me while chewing on the topic of content:
1. I want to live in a world where Quality is more important than Quantity.
If you don't have anything valuable to say (or share), it's completely okay to just listen.
Similarly, I was told a quote by someone this week that sums it up succinctly; the quote is from Nassim Taleb's book: Antifragile. Taleb says: "If newspapers weren't trying to sell us junk food, they'd be two sentences some days and 200 pages others".
2. Curation can be just as important as Creation in today's environment.
There's so much information out there, so being a trusted voice of reason, a filter - is becoming more and more valuable to society than in any other time in history (IMHO).
So, with that, I don't have "5 things" this week. See you next week. Or, the next time I feel I have something worth sharing...
PS - yes, "{{third_topic}}" was intentional.
